I created this video to show how to create and share a YouTube playlist in just a few clicks — whether you want to organize your content, group videos by theme, or make it easier for your audience to binge your best work.
Playlists are a powerful but underused feature on YouTube. They help with watch time, SEO, and user experience — and they’re incredibly simple to set up. If you’re not using playlists, you’re probably leaving views and retention on the table.
Here’s how to create one and use it effectively.
Step 1: Go to YouTube Studio or your channel page
You can create a playlist in two ways:
Option 1 (Fastest):
While watching any video (even someone else’s), click the “Save” button under the video player. Then select “+ Create new playlist.” Name your playlist and set its privacy — Public, Unlisted, or Private.
Option 2 (More control):
Log into YouTube Studio, then:
-
Go to Playlists from the sidebar
-
Click “New Playlist” in the top right
-
Name it clearly (e.g., Best Productivity Tools, Beginner Tutorials)
-
Choose your visibility and click Create
Once the playlist is made, you can go in and reorder videos, write a description, and set a custom thumbnail.
Step 2: Add videos to your playlist
From any video on your channel (or elsewhere), click “Save” and choose the playlist you just created.
Inside the playlist editor, you can:
-
Drag and drop to reorder
-
Add new videos via URL or search
-
Set a video as the playlist thumbnail
-
Write a compelling playlist description to help with SEO
I like to use playlists not just to organize content, but to guide viewers through a topic — turning one-time views into longer watch sessions.
Step 3: Share your playlist
To share a playlist:
-
Go to the playlist page
-
Click “Share” and copy the link
-
Post it on your site, in an email, on social media, or in another video description
You can even use playlist links in YouTube cards or end screens to encourage binge-watching. This is especially useful for tutorials or multi-part content.
Tips for better playlist strategy
-
Use keywords in your playlist title
-
Order videos intentionally — start with your best or most watchable content
-
Don’t just group random uploads — think thematically
-
Link playlists in your video descriptions and pinned comments
Bonus: playlists show up in search results and YouTube suggestions, giving your channel more ways to get discovered.
Are you just uploading videos — or building an actual journey for your audience?
