Over the last 5+ years, I’ve employed over 500 people as freelancers for tasks ranging from web development, content writing, graphic design, sales & biz dev, SEO, front and backend dev work, etc etc. All within my company.

I was looking through my email & Upwork profile today and I’ve also interviewed more than 7000 people in that time. So I have a pretty good idea of how people think & work in a range of professions 🧑‍🚒

The biggest issue that comes up time and time again is people trying to tell you to tackle a problem in a different way than the way you’re trying to have the work contracted.

Now, I’m all for collaborative work, it’s massively important and I’m open to hearing alternative ways to solve problems ⚒

And on its face it might sound arrogant of me to suppose that I know as much as the people I’m contracting to solve technical problems. However, as a good business owner, I know EVERY aspect of my business in detail and have a wide understanding of both sides of the technical and creative coin.

What happens fairly regularly, though, is that I have decided on a course of action after many days (sometimes months) deciding on a plan of attack and lots of discussions with people I consider smarter than me on strategy.

And then someone who I’ve contracted will try and sway me from the vision with an alternative approach, even though I politely tell them that I’ve already considered & thrown out that approach.

People have lost big projects this way because they insist on using a certain software or app or an approach that I know is flawed and will lose us much time.

I’ve come to the end of what I wanted to say and just realised that I’m writing it on Facebook and most people aren’t interested in such things. And also that I’ve just wasted 5 mins writing this out 🙃
