I created this video to walk through how to edit your profile on X (formerly Twitter) — from updating your name and handle to rewriting your bio and adding links.
Your X profile is often the first thing people see when they check you out — whether you’re a creator, business owner, or just someone active in your niche. A clear, optimized profile can drive followers, DMs, and even website clicks.
Here’s how to update yours the right way.
Step 1: Go to your profile
On desktop, click your profile picture in the left-hand menu and select “Profile.” On mobile, tap your avatar and then tap your profile name at the top.
You’ll see your:
- Header image
- Profile picture
- Name
- Handle (your @username)
- Bio
- Location, website, and birthday (optional)
Step 2: Click “Edit profile”
You’ll see an Edit Profile button on your profile page. Click that, and you’ll be able to change the key components.
Here’s what to focus on:
- Name: Doesn’t have to match your handle. You can use keywords here (e.g., “Matt | Kajabi Expert”).
- Bio: Keep it short, specific, and value-driven. Add what you do, who you help, and possibly a CTA.
- Location and website: These help build trust. If you run a business, always include your site.
In the video, I go over several bio formats that work — including creator-style bios, service provider intros, and audience-first one-liners.
Step 3: Add or update your profile and header images
These visual elements matter more than you think. I use Canva to create branded headers (1500x500px works best) and consistent profile pictures across my platforms.
Step 4: Click “Save”
Once you’ve made your edits, hit Save and preview your new look. Edits go live immediately.
Bonus: If you’re running multiple accounts or building a brand, I show how to use consistent profile structures to build brand recognition across niches.
Are you actively optimizing your X profile to attract followers and traffic — or is it overdue for a refresh?
