I created this video to walk you through how to edit your profile on Letterboxd, whether you’re brand new to the platform or just haven’t touched your profile settings since you signed up.

Your Letterboxd profile is more than just a place to track your watched films — it’s your personal identity as a movie lover. Whether you’re casually logging films, building detailed watchlists, or reviewing everything you see, a clean and customized profile helps you connect with others who share your taste.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to update your bio, add social links, change your display name, and generally make your profile feel more like you.

Step 1: Log in and go to your profile

First things first, log into your Letterboxd account and click on your profile icon in the top-right corner. From the dropdown, select “Settings”.

This is where everything lives — from profile info to account preferences, privacy controls, and email notifications.

Once you’re in the Settings panel, click “Profile” from the sidebar.

Step 2: Customize your display name and bio

At the top, you’ll see fields for:

  • Display Name — this is what others will see (e.g., “MovieMatt” instead of your full name)

  • Bio — a short description or personal intro

  • Location (optional)

In your bio, feel free to be personal or quirky — share your favorite genres, directors, or even a link to your Letterboxd lists. I like using mine to highlight ongoing projects, like “Working through 100 Criterion Collection films in 2025.”

Keep in mind: Letterboxd bios support basic Markdown, so you can bold, italicize, or link to external pages or other Letterboxd content.

Step 3: Add your social links and website

Scroll down a little further, and you’ll find the Web Presence section. Here, you can add:

  • Your website or blog URL

  • Links to Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook, or Tumblr

  • A location for displaying your country or city

If you run a film blog, YouTube channel, or even a film-related store, this is a great place to showcase it. These links show up directly on your profile and help others find your work beyond Letterboxd.

Step 4: Update your avatar and banner

To give your profile visual identity, you can upload:

  • Avatar: A square profile picture (recommended size: 400x400px)

  • Profile banner: A horizontal image shown at the top of your profile (recommended size: 1280x320px)

You can upload a still from a favorite film, a stylized logo, or even a shot from your personal collection. This adds character and makes your page stand out when people click through to your reviews or lists.

In the video, I show you how I set mine up using a Canva template — it’s quick and adds a lot of polish.

Step 5: Save and preview your profile

Once you’ve made all your changes, don’t forget to hit the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Then go back to your main profile by clicking your username from the top-right menu and check out how it all looks.

From here, you can continue editing things like:

  • Favorite films (the 4 posters at the top of your profile)

  • Your film diary and rating system

  • Custom tags and lists

Bonus: Keep your profile current

If you’re actively logging or reviewing, revisit your profile every month or so to:

  • Refresh your bio

  • Swap in new favorite films

  • Update any links or personal projects you’re working on

Treat it like a living part of your film journey.
