I created this quick tutorial to show you how to enable Dark Mode in Google Docs — something I personally use to reduce eye strain when working late.
Google Docs doesn’t have a dedicated dark mode toggle in the desktop version yet, but there are workarounds. In this video, I walk through both mobile and browser-based methods.
On mobile:
- Open Google Docs app
- Tap the menu icon > Settings
- Toggle Dark theme
On desktop:
- Use a Dark Mode Chrome extension like “Dark Reader”
- Or enable the system-wide dark mode on macOS or Windows (which may affect browser behavior)
I also show how to switch back easily, in case you’re working on documents with a client or team that prefers the standard view.
I’ve found that using dark mode helps a lot during long writing sessions — especially in low-light environments.
Do you use dark mode for most apps or prefer the classic light background?
