I made a helpful video on my channel showing how to turn your Instagram profile into a professional account. Here it is:
Instagram has evolved far beyond just a place for selfies and brunch pics. If you’re using it to promote your work, grow a brand, or understand your audience better, switching to a professional account is the way to go.
In the video, I show you how to do this in less than a minute. Just open the Instagram app, go to your profile, and tap the three lines in the top-right corner. Then head to Settings & Privacy > Account type and tools > Switch to professional account.
Instagram will guide you through a few steps — choosing your category (like Artist, Blogger, Business, etc.), and selecting between Creator or Business. Each has its perks, but both give you access to insights and tools you don’t get with a personal account.
Once you’re set up, you’ll be able to see data like profile visits, reach, audience demographics, and content performance. This can make a big difference if you’re trying to grow intentionally. It also allows you to run ads, set up shopping features, and connect with Meta’s business tools.
One big myth I clear up in the video: switching to professional mode doesn’t make your profile public automatically. You still control who can follow and message you. That said, many people do choose to go public once they’re in pro mode to gain more visibility.
If you’re managing multiple accounts — like one for art and another for coaching, or maybe a family business — turning on professional mode helps you separate personal posting from strategic, branded content.
I made the switch myself a while ago and haven’t looked back. It’s made content planning more purposeful and given me a clearer picture of what resonates with my audience.
Have you considered making your Instagram professional? What kind of insights would be most useful to you?
