I filmed this quick tutorial for anyone who finds themselves stuck in shuffle mode when they just want to hear a playlist in order. You can watch it here:

Shuffle play is great… until it’s not. Sometimes you want to listen to an album the way the artist intended or follow a carefully arranged playlist without surprises. In this video, I show how to turn off shuffle mode in Spotify on both mobile and desktop.

If you’ve ever been frustrated by songs jumping around when you just wanted them in sequence, this is your fix.

First, open Spotify and play any song. Look at the bottom of the screen for the playback controls. You’ll see the shuffle icon — those same crossed arrows. If it’s green, that means shuffle is turned on. Just tap or click it once, and it will turn grey, which means it’s off.

On desktop, the control is in the bottom playback bar, next to repeat. On mobile, it’s often hidden behind the “Now Playing” screen, so make sure you’ve tapped into the full-player view to see it.

In the video, I also talk about an issue some users face — especially those on the free plan. You might not be able to turn off shuffle at all unless you upgrade to Spotify Premium. That’s because the free version limits playback controls, especially on mobile.

Still, if you’re on Premium and didn’t even realize shuffle was on, this guide will help you take back control of your music flow.

Personally, I use shuffle when I’m in a spontaneous mood, but when I’m listening to a concept album or soundtrack, I always turn it off. There’s something about experiencing music in the intended order that makes a big difference.

Let me know — are you team shuffle or team linear playlist?
