I created this video to walk you through how to reset or change your Spotify password, whether you’ve forgotten it completely or just want to update it for security reasons.

Keeping your Spotify account secure is essential — especially if you’re subscribed to Spotify Premium or have connected accounts like Facebook or Google. Thankfully, changing your password is a quick and straightforward process if you know where to go (and no, it’s not directly inside the app).
Let’s walk through both options: resetting your password (if you’re locked out) and changing it (if you’re already logged in and just want a new one).
Option 1: Forgot your password? Here’s how to reset it
If you’re logged out and can’t remember your password, follow these steps:
-
Go to https://www.spotify.com/password-reset
-
Enter the email address or username linked to your Spotify account
-
Click “Send”
Spotify will email you a password reset link. Open your inbox (check spam/junk if needed) and click the link. From there, you’ll be prompted to create a new password.
⚠️ Important: The reset link expires after a certain time — if you wait too long, you’ll need to request a new one.
Option 2: Already logged in? Change your password from your account
If you’re already logged into your Spotify account, here’s how to update your password manually:
-
Go to https://www.spotify.com/account/change-password
-
Enter your current password
-
Enter your new password, and confirm it
-
Click “Set New Password”
And that’s it — your password will be updated instantly across all devices.
In the video, I show this step-by-step inside my own account so you can follow along visually.
Can’t change your password? It might be linked to Facebook, Google, or Apple
If you signed up using Facebook, Google, or Apple, you might not have a standalone Spotify password.
In this case:
-
You’ll need to change your password via Facebook, Google, or Apple’s settings
-
After doing so, the change will automatically apply to your Spotify login
Alternatively, you can disconnect third-party login options and switch to a regular Spotify email + password login — but this takes a few extra steps in your account settings.
Best practices for a secure Spotify password
When setting a new password, make sure it’s:
-
At least 8 characters long
-
A mix of letters, numbers, and symbols
-
Something you don’t reuse across other accounts
-
Stored safely in a password manager (like 1Password or Bitwarden)
If Spotify detects any suspicious logins, it may force a logout across all devices and ask you to reset your password — this is a good thing. It keeps your account safe.
Final tip: Log out of all devices (optional)
If you’ve changed your password and want to be extra cautious, go to:
https://www.spotify.com/account
Then scroll down and click “Sign Out Everywhere.”
This will log your account out of all devices, including phones, tablets, smart speakers, and desktop apps.
