If you’ve ever created a YouTube playlist and realized the order just doesn’t make sense, don’t worry — it’s incredibly easy to rearrange your videos for better flow. Whether you’re organizing tutorials, interviews, or a binge-worthy series, adjusting your playlist order helps viewers enjoy your content the way you intended. In this quick walkthrough, I explain how to change the sequence of your YouTube playlists effortlessly.
YouTube playlists can be sorted automatically or manually, depending on how much control you want. Here’s how to do it both ways:
1. Open YouTube Studio
Head to YouTube Studio → Content → Playlists. Select the playlist you want to edit.
2. Switch to the Edit Page
Click the playlist’s title. Then choose Edit to open the playlist management screen.
3. Choose Your Sorting Method
At the top, click Sort. You’ll see several options:
-
Date Added (Newest/Oldest)
-
Most Popular
-
Custom Order
Select Custom Order to manually drag and drop videos.
4. Drag and Drop to Rearrange
Click and hold the video’s handle (the six dots beside it) to move it up or down the list. Release when it’s in the right spot.
5. Save Changes
Once you’re happy with the order, your playlist automatically updates for all viewers.
Bonus Tip:
You can also set a “Series Playlist” flag under playlist settings. This tells YouTube that videos should play in order — perfect for step-by-step tutorials or educational series.
A well-structured playlist boosts watch time and retention. It guides viewers through your content naturally and increases the likelihood they’ll stay on your channel.
If you’ve got hundreds of videos like I do, small tweaks like this make a big difference. Reordering playlists turns a random collection into a smooth, professional viewing experience.
