I put together this short tutorial to explain how YouTube’s new pronouns feature works — and how to add yours if you choose to. Here’s the video:

YouTube now lets creators display their pronouns on their channel, similar to how other platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn do. It’s a small addition, but one that helps with clarity, inclusion, and respectful communication.

In the video, I walk through the steps:

  1. Go to YouTube Studio
  2. Click “Customization”
  3. Open the “Basic info” tab
  4. Look for the new Pronouns section, and choose from the list or enter a custom option

You can decide whether to show them publicly or just keep them in your account settings.

This update is rolling out gradually, so if you don’t see it yet, you may need to wait or check back later.

Whether you want to display he/him, she/her, they/them, or something else entirely, YouTube’s addition of this field makes it easy. I also talk briefly about when pronouns show up — typically in About sections and comments on some devices.

Do you plan to add pronouns to your channel?
