I filmed this step-by-step video to show you how to permanently delete your Reddit account. Here’s the tutorial:
Sometimes, you’re just ready to walk away from a platform — and Reddit makes account deletion straightforward once you know where to look.
In the video, I walk you through the process:
- Log into Reddit on desktop (account deletion can’t be done in the mobile app).
- Go to User Settings > Account tab.
- Scroll all the way down and click “Delete Account.”
You’ll be prompted to re-enter your credentials and (optionally) provide a reason. After confirmation, your account is gone.
A key thing I emphasize in the video: Reddit does not delete your posts or comments when you delete your account. Your username is removed and replaced with [deleted], but the content stays unless you manually remove it beforehand.
So, if privacy is your reason for leaving, be sure to delete your post and comment history first. I mention a few tools that can help with this process, like Reddit Scrubber extensions or scripts.
Account deletions are final — there’s no way to recover your account once deleted. Make sure you download any saved posts or messages before taking the leap.
Have you ever thought about deleting your Reddit account — or just doing a big cleanup instead?
