How To Create Lists On X (Formerly Twitter)

I created this video to show how to create and use Lists on X (Twitter) — a feature that lets you curate groups of users by niche, topic, or interest so you can finally beat the noise of the algorithm.

Twitter’s feed can be chaotic, especially if you follow more than a few hundred accounts. Lists let you build focused, distraction-free timelines for whatever matters most to you — and they’re criminally underused.

Here’s how I build and manage mine.

Step 1: Go to “Lists”

Click More > Lists in the sidebar. On mobile, it’s under your profile menu.

Then click “Create new list.” You’ll need to:

  • Name the list
  • Add a short description (optional)
  • Choose public or private visibility

I recommend making your most valuable lists private — especially if you’re using them for competitor tracking or content research.

Step 2: Add users

Search for the user or go to their profile. Click the three-dot icon, then select “Add/remove from Lists” and choose the list you want.

You don’t need to follow someone to add them to a list — which is great if you’re monitoring people quietly.

Examples of lists I keep:

  • Indie Hackers & SaaS Builders
  • YouTube Creators
  • SEO & Content Marketing
  • Startup Investors
  • Design Inspiration

Step 3: Use your lists like mini-feeds

Click on any list to open a clean, distraction-free timeline of just those users. No ads, no trending drama, no unrelated content — just the people you care about.

I use this to:

  • Catch up on news from a niche
  • Find inspiration for content
  • Interact more deeply with specific communities

In the video, I show how I save Lists to bookmarks in Chrome for one-click access.

Are you actively curating lists — or just passively scrolling your main feed?
