I made this video to show how to manage your watchlist on Letterboxd — including how to add, remove, sort, and use it as a powerful film discovery tool.
Letterboxd is one of the best platforms for film lovers, and the Watchlist is one of its most underrated features. It’s more than just a to-do list of movies — it can shape your viewing habits and help you explore genres, directors, and decades intentionally.
Here’s how I use it.
Step 1: Add films to your Watchlist
Search for a film using the top navigation bar. Once you’re on the movie page, click the “Watchlist” icon — it looks like a bookmark or “+” symbol.
You’ll know it worked when the icon fills in and the film appears in your Watchlist.
Step 2: Access your Watchlist
Go to your profile, then click the “Watchlist” tab in the header. This page shows all the films you’ve added, in reverse order by default.
In the video, I show how to filter by:
- Genre
- Year
- Language
- Streaming availability (if enabled via JustWatch)
Step 3: Sort and organize
You can sort your Watchlist by:
- Most popular
- Release date
- Average rating
- Oldest added
This makes it really easy to decide what to watch next — especially if you’re in the mood for a hidden gem or highly rated classic.
Step 4: Remove or log films
Watched something? Just log it, and it will be automatically removed from your Watchlist and added to your diary.
I also show how to remove items manually if you change your mind — just click the Watchlist icon again to deselect it.
Step 5: Turn your Watchlist into a List
Want to share it? Turn your Watchlist into a public custom List, then link to it from your Letterboxd bio or social media. This works great for curating theme-based collections like:
- “My 2024 Must-Watch List”
- “Films to Study for Cinematography”
- “Directorial Debuts I Haven’t Seen Yet”
Are you actively using your Watchlist as a film discovery engine, or just adding movies and forgetting about them?
