I made this video to show how to add chapters to your YouTube videos — a super useful feature that improves viewer retention and helps videos rank better.

Chapters let viewers jump to key sections, and they’re favored by both users and the YouTube algorithm. In the video, I explain:

  1. Adding timestamps to your video description
  2. Formatting the first timestamp as 00:00
  3. Labeling each chapter clearly and consistently
  4. Including at least 3 chapters for the system to recognize it
  5. Checking the progress bar for auto-segment display

I use chapters in almost every tutorial now. It increases watch time and improves the chance that your video gets featured in Google search results with rich snippets.

Have you been adding chapters to your uploads, or just now getting into it?
