Sometimes, you just want to share content without inviting public discussion — and that’s perfectly fine. There are many reasons you might want to turn off comments. Maybe you’re avoiding spam, limiting distractions, or keeping your channel more professional. Thankfully, YouTube Studio makes this process extremely simple.
Here’s the step-by-step method:
1. Open YouTube Studio
Go to studio.youtube.com and log in with your channel credentials.
2. Navigate to “Content”
Click Content on the left-hand menu to view your list of uploaded videos.
3. Select the Video You Want to Edit
Hover over the video, then click the pencil icon (Details) to open the video settings.
4. Click “Show More”
Scroll down and expand the Show More section — this is where the comments options are hidden.
5. Find the “Comments and Ratings” Section
From the dropdown, select Disable Comments.
6. Save Your Changes
Click Save in the top-right corner, and your video will immediately update with comments turned off.
Want to disable comments for all future uploads?
Head to Settings → Upload Defaults → Advanced Settings and choose Disable Comments there. Every new upload will now inherit that preference automatically.
Pro Tips:
-
You can re-enable comments at any time if you change your mind.
-
Consider turning off comments temporarily during high-traffic periods.
-
Use moderation filters if you’d prefer to approve comments manually instead.
Sometimes, silence keeps your content focused. Turning off comments can help you maintain brand control, minimize negativity, and create a more polished viewing experience.
