If you’ve ever shared something on Facebook and noticed no one outside your friends could see or share it, your post probably wasn’t set to Public. Making a post public allows anyone — not just your friends — to view, comment, and share it. In my latest tutorial, I walk through how to make a Facebook post public in just a few taps.
You can change the audience for any individual post or set “Public” as your default for future ones. Here’s how to do both:
To Make a Single Post Public:
-
Find the post on your timeline.
-
Click the three dots (•••) in the top-right corner of the post.
-
Choose Edit Audience.
-
Select Public.
Your post will now be visible to everyone — even people who aren’t on your friends list.
To Set Public as Default for Future Posts:
-
Go to Settings & Privacy → Settings.
-
Click Privacy.
-
Under “Who can see your future posts?”, select Public.
This is ideal if you use Facebook for business, content creation, or community building.
On Mobile:
-
Tap the menu icon (☰) in the Facebook app.
-
Go to Settings & Privacy → Settings → Profile Privacy.
-
Choose Public under “Who can see your posts?”
Tips for Public Posting:
-
Keep personal updates private by adjusting audience settings per post.
-
Public posts are ideal for business promotions, announcements, or tutorials.
-
Add hashtags and location tags to increase reach.
I often set tutorial links, event updates, and business posts to public so more people can share them. It’s one of the simplest ways to grow visibility without paid ads.
In just a few steps, you can make any Facebook post shareable with the world. It’s a small setting that has a huge impact on engagement and reach.
