I recently uploaded a quick tutorial on how to make your Spotify playlists private. You can watch it here:

Spotify is built for sharing — but sometimes, you want your playlists to stay just for you. Whether it’s a guilty-pleasure mix, a draft for future curation, or just something you’re not ready to share, making playlists private is simple and useful.

In the video, I show you step-by-step how to hide any playlist from public view. Just open your playlist, tap the three dots (more options), and select Make private. On desktop, it’s under the same menu, usually next to the playlist title.

Once a playlist is private, no one else can see it — even if they have the link. It won’t show up on your public profile or in search. That gives you peace of mind to curate freely without worrying about judgment or premature visibility.

I also explain how to check if a playlist is already private — the menu option will show “Make public” if it’s currently hidden, which means you’ve already made it private successfully.

You can toggle playlists back and forth anytime, so there’s no long-term commitment. This is helpful if you’re building a playlist in stages and only want to reveal it when it’s finished.

In the video, I also discuss Spotify’s “Secret playlist” option, which goes a step further by keeping it hidden even from your activity feed — great for super-private curation.

Personally, I’ve used this feature to create seasonal playlists, draft mood boards for creative projects, and even test music for videos before publishing publicly.

Keeping your playlists private gives you creative freedom — and a little breathing room to be weird, honest, or experimental.

Do you keep any playlists private, or do you like sharing everything you create?
