I created this video to show how to create and manage lists on Letterboxd, which is one of the platform’s most powerful — yet underused — features for film curation and discovery.

While most people use Letterboxd for reviews and watchlists, Lists give you the power to curate your own collections, rank favorites, or track viewing challenges. And if you’re a creator, lists can also drive traffic to your profile and establish your niche.

Here’s how I do it.

Step 1: Go to your profile and click “Lists”

From your main profile page, click the “Lists” tab. You’ll see any lists you’ve already created, or you can click “+ New List.”

Step 2: Give it a name and description

Name it something clear and compelling:

  • “Top 50 Films of the 1990s”
  • “Essential Female-Led Thrillers”
  • “Every Film I Watched in 2024”

Add a description — you can use Markdown for formatting, links, and quotes. This is where I explain why the list exists, the criteria for inclusion, and sometimes how I ranked the films.

Step 3: Add films manually or from diary

Click “+ Add Films” and search for titles to include. You can reorder them manually or use Sort By tools (alphabetical, release year, etc.).

You can also add directly from a film page by clicking the “…” and selecting “Add to List.”

Step 4: Make it public or private

By default, your list is public. You can toggle privacy, allow comments, and choose to feature the list on your profile for more visibility.

In the video, I show how I build recurring series like:

  • “Films I Recommend to Every New Cinephile”
  • “Directorial Debuts I Love”
  • “Films I Watched With My Daughter (Age 5)”

Step 5: Share it

Letterboxd gives you a short link to share your list on social or embed it on a blog. You can also use the “Copy Markdown” option to paste the list into Notion or other platforms.

Are you creating Letterboxd lists regularly, or just logging films and moving on?
