I made this video to show how to crop images, shapes, and elements in Canva — something that seems simple but has a few handy tricks when done right.

Cropping in Canva isn’t just about resizing. You can actually use it to highlight details, create custom layouts, and build visual hierarchy in your designs.

In the tutorial, I walk through:

  1. Uploading or selecting your image
  2. Clicking the Crop button from the top toolbar
  3. Dragging and resizing to frame your subject
  4. Using frames for masked crops (like circles, phones, or browser windows)
  5. Adjusting position after cropping for finer control

I also show a few ways to crop elements like logos, shapes, and graphics that don’t behave like images — and how to layer them creatively.

This is something I use in every thumbnail, banner, and Instagram post I make in Canva.

Do you find yourself manually resizing, or have you mastered the crop tool?
