I created this video to walk through how to create a poll on X, formerly known as Twitter — which is one of the easiest ways to increase engagement and get feedback from your audience.
Polls are underrated. They’re quick to create, super engaging, and they show your audience you care about their opinion. Whether you’re testing new product ideas, gauging interest in a topic, or just having fun, this tool is simple and effective.
Step 1: Open the composer on X (desktop or mobile)
Click “Tweet” as you normally would, then click the bar chart icon in the bottom row of icons.
This opens the poll tool where you can:
- Add your poll question
- Enter up to 4 options
- Set your poll duration (from 5 minutes to 7 days)
Step 2: Write clearly and keep it short
X still limits the overall tweet character count, including the question and options, so keep your wording concise and to the point.
Examples I’ve used:
- “Which video should I post next?”
- “Do you prefer Notion or Trello?”
- “What’s your biggest struggle with YouTube growth?”
Step 3: Schedule or post immediately
If you’re using the desktop version of X, you can schedule your poll tweet to go live later. This works well if you want to space out content in your calendar or post during peak engagement hours.
Step 4: Engage with the responses
Once the poll is live, don’t just walk away. Retweet it with a comment, reply to people, and — after it closes — share your thoughts based on the results.
I usually post a follow-up like:
“Interesting result! Looks like most of you prefer short tutorials. I’ll focus on that in my next upload.”
Polls also work well with threads. Ask a question in the poll, then break down context or ideas in a thread that follows.
Have you experimented with polls on X yet, or are you mostly posting links and replies?
