I made a quick tutorial to show the best way to copy tables generated by ChatGPT into tools like Google Sheets or Excel without formatting issues. Watch here:
ChatGPT can generate really useful tables — like checklists, comparison charts, even CSV-style layouts. But copying them straight into a spreadsheet can sometimes be messy if you don’t know the trick.
In the video, I walk you through how to:
- Highlight and copy the table text
- Paste it into Google Sheets using “Paste Special > Paste values only”
- Or paste into Excel and choose “Text import” for clean formatting
- Use Notepad or a plain-text editor as an intermediary if needed
I also explain how to convert markdown-style tables into usable formats — including those with pipes (|) and hyphens (–). Many users don’t realize that ChatGPT’s tables are plain text, so it’s all about how you paste.
I’ve used this method to transfer budget templates, content calendars, and even SEO reports generated in ChatGPT into real documents.
Have you tried copying a ChatGPT table before? What worked best for you?
