I created this video to clear up the confusion around Reddit usernames — specifically how and when you can change them. Here’s the full walkthrough:

Reddit handles usernames a little differently than most platforms. Once you set it, you usually can’t change it — with one key exception: if you created your account using a Google or Apple login and never picked a username.

In the video, I show how, if you’re eligible, Reddit will prompt you the first time you comment or post. It’ll say something like “Choose your username.” You can only do this once — after that, it’s permanent.

If you’ve already chosen a username and regret it, your only real option is to create a new Reddit account. I walk through that option as well and how to preserve your subscriptions or use an anonymous handle for sensitive topics.

The video also addresses a common question: Can I reuse an old Reddit username if I delete the account? Unfortunately, the answer is no — once a username is taken, it’s locked forever, even if deleted.

Have you ever wanted to change your Reddit name after picking something random during signup?
