I made this quick tutorial to show you how to change the default download location in Google Chrome. If you’re tired of all your downloads going into one big messy folder, this video is for you:
By default, Chrome saves everything to your “Downloads” folder, which can get cluttered fast — especially if you’re downloading images, PDFs, or files every day. The good news is you can easily change where these files go, or even make Chrome ask you each time.
In the video, I walk you through how to:
- Open Chrome Settings
- Scroll down to “Downloads”
- Click “Change” next to the current download folder
- Select a new location — a different folder, external drive, desktop, etc.
There’s also a checkbox that says “Ask where to save each file before downloading.” If you enable this, Chrome will prompt you with a file picker each time, which is helpful if you’re organizing files by project or client.
I personally use this setting when working on multiple content batches or when I want my downloads to land in Google Drive folders.
The tutorial also touches on restoring the default path if you ever want to switch back.
Do you let all your files go to Downloads, or do you prefer a more organized system?
