I made this quick guide to help Mac users rename folders without any confusion. You can find the full video here:

Renaming a folder might seem basic, but if you’re new to macOS or switching from Windows, it can be a little unintuitive at first. The good news is — once you know how, it’s a super fast and easy process.

In the video, I show how to click once on the folder name, wait a second, then click again — not a double-click, but a slow second click. This highlights the folder name and lets you type your new name directly.

You can also right-click the folder and choose “Rename” from the context menu. Or use the shortcut: select the folder, press Return, and type the new name.

The tutorial also includes a quick explanation of how to avoid naming conflicts and illegal characters (like slashes or colons) that macOS doesn’t allow.

Renaming folders is key for staying organized — whether you’re working on creative projects, client files, or schoolwork. I use naming systems with dates, project tags, or client names to make everything easy to find.
