I made this video to explain how to add end screens to your YouTube videos, which is one of the easiest ways to keep viewers on your channel and boost watch time.

End screens show up in the final 5–20 seconds of your video and let you promote:

  • Other videos or playlists
  • Your channel (for subscribing)
  • External websites (if you’re in the YouTube Partner Program)

Adding them is free, takes only a minute, and helps retain more of your audience.

Step 1: Upload or select your video in YouTube Studio

From your YouTube dashboard, click on “Content”, then select a video. Go to the Editor tab.

Step 2: Click “End Screen”

This opens a drag-and-drop interface where you can choose a layout or add elements manually.

I walk through using the “Video + Subscribe” layout — my personal favorite.

Step 3: Add and position elements

You can include up to four elements, such as:

  • Most recent upload
  • Best for viewer (auto-selected by YouTube)
  • Specific video or playlist
  • Subscribe button
  • External link (if eligible)

Use the timeline at the bottom to decide when the end screen starts. Most creators start it 15 seconds from the end.

You can also resize or reposition each element, making sure they don’t overlap or obscure your final call-to-action in the video itself.

Step 4: Save and preview

Once your layout looks good, click “Save.” Watch the video back to make sure nothing feels rushed or out of place.

In the video, I also share a few layout tips:

  • Keep the subscribe button in the corner (easy to click)
  • Avoid covering up your face or branding
  • Use your outro music to lead viewers naturally into the end screen

Are you using end screens on every video, or still skipping them because of time or workflow?
