I made this tutorial to show how to create gradient-colored text in Canva — a popular effect that’s not officially a built-in feature (yet). But you can do it. Watch how here:

Canva doesn’t offer a built-in “gradient text” feature, but in this video, I show two fast workarounds:

Method 1: Use Gradient Text from the Templates

  1. Search “gradient text” in the Canva Elements tab
  2. Drag and customize the premade gradient letter graphics
  3. Adjust colors or stack them creatively

Method 2: Upload Gradient Backgrounds

  1. Create a gradient image
  2. Use it as a text mask (with a frame or shape)
  3. Layer your text over the gradient image and reduce transparency

These tricks let you get the same polished look you’d find in Photoshop — but done entirely within Canva. I use this style a lot for bold headings, thumbnails, and Instagram quote graphics.

Would you use gradient text on your next design project?
