I made this tutorial to show how to create gradient-colored text in Canva — a popular effect that’s not officially a built-in feature (yet). But you can do it. Watch how here:
Canva doesn’t offer a built-in “gradient text” feature, but in this video, I show two fast workarounds:
Method 1: Use Gradient Text from the Templates
- Search “gradient text” in the Canva Elements tab
- Drag and customize the premade gradient letter graphics
- Adjust colors or stack them creatively
Method 2: Upload Gradient Backgrounds
- Create a gradient image
- Use it as a text mask (with a frame or shape)
- Layer your text over the gradient image and reduce transparency
These tricks let you get the same polished look you’d find in Photoshop — but done entirely within Canva. I use this style a lot for bold headings, thumbnails, and Instagram quote graphics.
Would you use gradient text on your next design project?
