I created this video to show how to log a movie on Letterboxd, which is the core of what makes this platform such a powerful tool for film lovers.

Logging your films not only helps you track what you’ve watched, but it also builds a personal film journal you can look back on over time. Whether you’re doing a 100-movie challenge, curating a watchlist, or just rating as you go, this step is essential.

Step 1: Find the movie

Head to the search bar and type in the title. You’ll get a list of options, including different releases and editions. Select the right one and land on its film page.

Step 2: Click “+” to log

Next to the “Watch” or “Watched” button, click the “+” icon. This opens the log window where you can choose the date you watched it, add a rating, write a review, and add tags.

In the video, I show how I do this with a film I rewatched recently — selecting a rewatch date, adding a quick 3-sentence review, and tagging it as “rewatch” and “watched in cinema.”

Step 3: Optional settings

You can also toggle:

  • Spoiler warning on your review
  • Hide from diary (if you’re logging without public visibility)
  • Add to list right from the log window

I also explain how to rate half stars, how ratings impact your “Highest Rated” and “Stats” pages, and why logging the actual watch date is useful for your year-end reviews.

Step 4: Save and share

Once logged, your entry appears in your diary, profile activity, and (optionally) in followers’ feeds. You can edit logs anytime or delete accidental entries with a few clicks.

This is something I do after every movie I watch — sometimes with a short review, sometimes just a date and a rating. But over time, it turns into a personal film archive that reflects your taste, growth, and memory.

Are you logging everything you watch, or just the highlights?
